Legacy

Members of the UPE chapter at James Madison University have gone on to be well-accomplished scholars. This page serves as a "hall of fame" to honor these members.

Randal Shoemaker ('19)

Randy went on to the PhD program in Computer Science at William and Mary.

Andrew Jones ('18)

Andrew went on to the PhD program in Computer Science at George Mason.

Steven Young ('16)

Steve went on to postgraduate studies in biomedical computing at the University of Virginia Medical School.

Kristopher Kalish ('10)

Kris went on to the PhD program in Computer Science at UC Davis.

Seth Fowler ('08)

Seth went on to the PhD program in Computer Science at UC Berkeley.

John Magnotti ('07)

John dual majored in Computer Science and Psychology. He went on to the PhD program in Psychology at Auburn University, where he also earned Master's degrees in Statistics and Experimental Psychology. After graduating in 2012, he worked for several years as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas Health Science Center and the Baylor College of Medicine (in Houston, TX), and in 2017 he accepted a position as Assistant Professor in the Neurosurgery department at the Baylor College of Medicine.

Michael Lam ('07)

Mike graduated with top honors and went on to the PhD program in Computer Science at the University of Maryland (UMD) in College Park, where he also earned a Master's degree in CS. After graduating in 2014, he worked briefly as a postdoctoral researcher at UMD before returning to accept a position as Assistant Professor in the CS department at James Madison University. As of 2018, he is the current UPE faculty advisor.
